|COMMUNITY KITCHEN: Grace Fellowship Church provides meals twice
monthly to needy families. The church started this past May and has
served more than 4,200 meals.
PIKEVILLE – Grace Fellowship Church began a free holiday meal for families in need 10 years ago.
Co-Pastor Debby Bailey realized as time passed there was a bigger need in the community to do more.
“The Lord has truly blessed us to be able to provide for so many over the years,” she said. “We started the community kitchen in May of this year.”
The church now provides free dinners twice monthly. Bailey said this past Christmas that 400 meals were served at the church with 300 of those delivered.
“We try to do this free lunch two days near the end of each month when families are struggling financially,” Bailey said. “Our policy is you can eat all you want while you're here and then take up to two trays home with you.”
Grace Fellowship has served more than 4,200 meals since May to those hungry, homeless, seniors and working poor without regard to situation or condition.
Bailey says none of this would be possible without the tireless efforts of Director Kathy Hamilton and the countless volunteers and sponsors.
“We've had so many people volunteer their time and efforts to make this a success,” she said. “Whether it's serving, cleaning up, socializing or just being a smiling face I can't thank God enough.”
Bailey said there are many local businesses and individuals behind the scene that keep the kitchen open.
This past week she and Hamilton honored volunteers with a plaque for their contributions.
“None of this would be possible without the support of so many businesses and organizations,” she said.
