Pikeville Medical Center (PMC) proudly announces the addition of Chinmay Patel, MD, nephrologist.
Dr. Patel completed his internal medicine residency and was chief resident at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in Jamaica, NY. He completed his nephrology fellowship training at Hofstra North Shore Long Island Jewish Hospital in Great Neck, NY. Dr. Patel has received numerous awards for his research and has published articles in national and international medical journals.
As a nephrologist, Dr. Patel specializes in acute kidney failure, chronic kidney disease, critical care nephrology, diabetic nephropathy, glomerular disease, renal parenchymal disease, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, post transplant long term care of kidney transplant recipients, kidney stone prevention, essential hypertension, malignant hypertension, secondary hypertension, resistant hypertension, hypertension in pregnancy and polycystic kidney disease.
“I specialize in treating patients who have kidney problems and/or suffer from difficult to control high blood pressure,” said Dr. Patel. “I see patients who are referred by their primary care physicians for problems related to the kidneys, high blood pressure or certain types of metabolic disorders.”
Dr. Patel enjoys dealing with the complexity of the kidneys.
“The kidneys are one of the most complex and smartest organs in our body,” added Dr. Patel. “If it weren’t for them, you would not be able to get rid of your excess body water and wastes; you wouldn’t have healthy bones and blood.”
Dr. Patel is excited to be part of the PMC team.
“PMC is the largest hospital in the region and strives to provide excellent health care,” praised Dr. Patel. “The hospital administration and President/CEO Mr. Walter E. May have done a tremendous job in getting top-quality health professionals from various specialties and subspecialties to the health system.”
When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Patel enjoys reading, watching sports television and playing with his daughter, Arya.
Dr. Patel is located on the 8th floor of the PMC Clinic. For more information or to schedule a physician appointment, call 606-218-2208.
