PRESTONSBURG – After an extensive search by the Jenny Wiley Theatre (JWT) Board of Trustees to replace long-time Executive Director Martin Childers, they realized the talent and skill was already in place at the theatre.

The decision to promote Darryl Willard, technical director to managing director, will mean a smooth transition for the theatre and ensure the success of its 2016 season at both locations.

“We won't miss a beat”, Board President Carrie Cinnamond-Rose said.  “I have so much confidence in our decision to name Darryl to this position, because of his prolific experience in theatre and his love of our region.”

He is no stranger to the JWT community, having moved to eastern Kentucky with his family to serve as the theatre's technical director in 2012.  His expertise and professional work in theatre span more than 30 years.

His educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis in theatre production from Plymouth State University (NH) and a Masters Certificate in Production Management from Clemson University.

He worked on more than 200 shows in nine different states, filling nearly every position in theatre.

Throughout his multi-faceted theatre career, he has worked as carpenter, electrician, stage manager, production manager, sound engineer and even actor on occasion, and during his tenure, he has done everything from building complex scenery, maintaining and improving facilities, to designing innovative sets and lighting.

He brings to JWT a well-rounded perspective of what makes theatre successful.  His wife of 30 years Kim, and his daughters Lacey, Ryann and Maddie, share his love of theatre.

The 2016 Jenny Wiley roster of shows begins with the comedy “Moonlight and Magnolias,” opening January 21.
