On behalf of the Pike County Republican Women's Club, I would like to send our condolences to Velma's family. She was one of our most devoted and loyal members. She had a heart of gold and always a joy to be near. She was a legend in her own time. Velma will be sorely missed by all.

I will miss Velma very much. I work at Staples in Pikeville, and she would always come in with tons and tons of pictures to have copied. Many of which was of former presidents and former Kentucky governors. She would always have a smile on her face, and a story to tell with each picture. Her death was untimely, and we have truly lost an iconic figure from Eastern Kentucky. R.I.P. Velma Childers.

We knew that Pitino was coming to Shelby Valley Wed. night to observe Elisha (who happens to be our great-nephew...had to brag a little..lol). Uncle Ron was hoping that Elisha would get a good offer and choose Louisville. We know it is a stressful decision for him and pray for him to make the right one. We have been so proud of him and feel that he deserves a good offer. He's not only a good basketball player, but is such a great/compassionate young man. Congratulations, Elisha, on whatever decision you make. Although we live in Michigan, we keep up with your stats. GO SHELBY VALLEY!!!
