Can you make an Epic Escape?

PIKEVILLE — Pikeville Main Street Program and Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce jointly hosted a red carpet ribbon cutting ceremony at Epic Escape Game to celebrate the grand opening of their location at 225 Second St., Suite 1 in downtown Pikeville on April 7.

Chamber and community members joined the staff and owner Harriet Blanton of Epic Escape Game to support the addition of a new business in our area.

Blanton said, “This building was the home of Anderson Department stores, became lawyers offices and then the space became empty. I knew I needed to do something with it.”

She said, “Tutors and mentors at the University of Pikeville took a group of students to an escape game in Lexington, Kentucky and the students really enjoyed it. I felt like Pikeville needed something like that.”

Escape games are an incredibly popular form of interactive entertainment. They are the hottest new attraction to hit the United States and are a must stop destination.

A group of two to eight players are locked in a themed room where you must work together and use your mental, physical and personal abilities to solve puzzles, decode clues and escape the room within a 60 minute time period.

The franchise customizes games according to events and things that happen in the surrounding area.

Blanton said she chose to do a Hatfield and McCoy Feud, Octavia Buried Alive and other game rooms.

The Deep – A massive shift in the planet’s tectonic plates has created a tear in the Mariana’s Trench, the deepest part of the ocean. The tear is allowing ocean water to cool the earth’s core. Once the core is cooled, our planet will cease to rotate life to exist as we know it. The team must dive 7.5 miles to Mariana’s Trench and detonate a nuclear warhead to seal the tear to save our planet.

Buried Alive – Octavia’s spirit roams the halls of this mansion cursing the residents of Pikeville. Those who enter the mansion will be cursed and shall suffer the same fate as Octavia by being buried alive. Your team is paranormal investigators that were hired to enter the mansion to encounter Octavia and reverse the curse.

The Feud – It’s 1888 and your group of pioneers are heading west to start a new beginning. It’s late and your group decides to stop for the night in an old cabin along the Tug River. You realize you are right in the middle of the Hatfield and McCoy Feud with shooting and gun fire outside. The cabin appears to have been inhabited by both of the warring families at one point with the Hatfield’s on one side and the McCoy’s on the other. They are threatening to burn down the cabin in one hour. They will grant you safe passage only if you produce a family heirloom for each family.

“The games are a linear process and are a great team building exercise,” said Blanton. “We have had a great response for entertainment and we’re thrilled to be here.”
