Pikeville falls to Warren Central in quarters

LEXINGTON — Pikeville’s run through the Sweet 16 tournament came to an abrupt ending as Warren Central pulled away from the Panthers for a 74-57 win in the quarterfinals at Rupp Arena on March 16.

The Panthers, who finished 25-10, reached the second round for the first time since beating Boyd County in the opening round back in 1999.

Wyatt Battaile finished out this career with 12 points, five rebounds and five steals. He was the only Panther to score in double figures.

Evan Rhodes tossed in eight points while Cade Byers and Connor Roberts finished with seven each.

Jordan Cousin led all scorers for the Dragons, now 31-5, with 23 points and Skyelar Potter followed with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

The Panthers struggled early on offensively, hitting just four of 13 shots in the opening period as Central opened up a 23-11 advantage. The lead grew to 34-21 at the break.

Central advanced to face Scott County.
