Thomas Thacker 1964-2007
Thomas Keen “Toe” Thacker, 42, of Raccoon, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2007.
He was born Dec. 24, 1964, a son of Alta Chaney Thacker of Raccoon and the late Keen Thacker Jr. Including his mother, he is survived by his wife, Romona Thacker; one son, Thomas Dillion Thacker of Raccoon; two daughters, Rachel Bevins and Daisy Thacker, both of Raccoon; two brothers, Rick Thacker and Dan L. Thacker, both of Raccoon; two sisters, Melissa Thacker Tackett of Floyd Co., and Loretta Taylor of Johns Creek; and one grandchild, Stormie Tineal Bevins.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the Community Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial followed in the Thacker Family Cemetery at Jonican Creek.
Arrangements were under the direction of Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.
Victor Eugene Adkins 1936-2007
Victor Eugene Adkins, 71, of Lexington, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007.
He was born Aug. 21, 1936, a son of the late James Wesley and Effie Adkins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, James Adkins; one daughter, Linda Adkins; and three brothers, Johnny Carl Adkins, Arthur Adkins and Arnold Adkins.
He is survived by four sons, Paul Adkins and Charles Adkins, both of Newark, Ohio, Christopher Adkins of Lexington and Timothy Adkins of Oklahoma City; Okla.; one daughter, Brenda Cooper of Newark; one sister, Ida Jane Moody of Oklahoma City; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held, Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Community Funeral Home.
Burial followed in the Slone Family Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Community Funeral Home of Zebulon.
Juan Antonio Rodriguez 2007-2007
Juan Antonio Rodriguez, the infant son of Juan Rodriguez, and Colita Burchett of Weeksbury, passed away on Nov. 11, 2007.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Patrick Rodriguez and Sebastin Rodriguez; maternal grandparents, Joyce Burchett of Lower Johns Creek, and Terry Burchett of Weeksbury; and paternal grandmother, Jessie Rodriguez of Weeksbury.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov 16, at Community Funeral Home.
Burial followed in the Smokey Valley Cemetery.
Arrangements were under the direction of Community Funeral Home.
Anna Marie Anderson 1932-2007
Anna Marie Anderson, 75, of Pikeville, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2007.
She was born April 19, 1932, a daughter of the late Avery and Bertha Conley Coleman.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Anderson.
She is survived by one son, John Anderson of Louisville; one brother, Walter Coleman of Clay City; and three sisters, Faye Thacker of Pikeville, and Rosemary Peale and Florine Coleman, both of Wise, Va.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the Lucas and Son Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial followed in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.

Betty Lee Ison 1924-2007
Betty Lee Ison, 83, of Jenkins, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007.
She was born June 20, 1924, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Billips. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Ricky Lee Ison.
She is survived by her husband, Curtis Lee Ison; one son, Steven Ison of Jenkins; one daughter, Irita Jo Anderson of Jenkins; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 1, at the Lucas and Son Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial followed in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.

Ira Edward Toppins 1942-2007
Ira Edward Toppins, 65, of Johns Creek, died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2007.
He was born May 16, 1942, a son of the late Ottis and Maxine Toppins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred Harvey Toppins and Harold Toppins.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Toppins; four daughters, Tammy Wilkerson of Lick Creek, Tina Slone of Pataskala, Ohio, Martha Toppins of Burlington, Jennifer Miller of Walton; three sisters Shirley Kirkland, Barbara Ivens and Dorothy Kempa, all of Madisonville, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and one greatgrandchild.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial followed in the Nichols Cemetery.

Gladys Sturgill 1926-2007
Gladys Irene Conn Sturgill, 81, of Harold, died Monday, Nov. 5, 2007.
She was born Oct. 2, 1926, a daughter of the late Sam and Rachel Johnson Conn.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ballard Sturgill; and one son, Douglas Sturgill.
She is survived by three sons, Herman Sturgill of Romulus, Mich., Kenley Sturgill of Allen, John W. Sturgill of Harold; eight daughters, Julie Johnson and Rachel Hamilton, both of Harold, Jettie Tibbs of Romulus, Betsy Burnette of Pikeville, Edna Michaels of Feds Creek, Teen Porter of Orangeburg, S.C., JoAnn Marsilette, both of Prestonsburg, Debbie Bentley of Stanville; one brother, Wendell Blake McKinney of Lincoln Park, Mich.; two sisters, Ernestine Fincher of Princeton, W.Va., and Magalene Chastain of Blairville, Conn.; 19 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 9, in the Lucas and Son Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial followed in the Ballard Sturgill Cemetery, Akers Branch.

Virgil Mullins 1926-2007
Virgil Mullins, 80, of Dorton, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007.
He was born Nov. 27, 1926, a son of the late Gallie and Myrtle Osborne Mullins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Golda Johnson Mullins; one son, James Virgil Mullions; one brother, Kenneth Mullins; and one grandson, James Childers II.
He is survived by two sons, Johnny Mullins and Joseph Mullins, both of Dorton; three daughters, Dolores Justice of Pikeville, Deborah Collins of Dorton, Doris Belcher of Elkhorn City; three brothers, Chester Mullins of Big Stone Gap, Va., Ira Mullins of Columbia, S.C. and Elster Mullins of Whitesburg; six sisters, Hazel Vanover of Wise, Va., Adoree Estep of Dorton, Shirley Mullins of Collins, Melster Roberts and Martha Lee Adkins, both of Pikeville, and Betty Roberts of Betsy Layne; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 8, at the Lucas and Son Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial followed in the Johnson Family Cemetery.

Waldon Wright 1942-2007
Waldon Sam Wright, 65, of Ga., formerly of Beefhide, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007.
He was born Sept. 12, 1942, the son of the late George and Matilda Wright.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Sammy Wright; four brothers, Melvin Wright, Arnold Wright, Morris Wright and Rush Wright; two sisters, Charlene Caudill and Bobbi Justice.
He is survived by one daughter, Kathy White of Jenkins; two sons, Claude Wright, of Ga. and George Wright; one sister, Wanda Bentley, of Pike Co.; four brothers; Junior Wright, Claude Wright, both of Pike Co., Ross Wright of Cornetteville and Bruce Wright, of Brownsburg, Ind.; four grandchildren; and one step grandchild.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 18, at Lucas and Son Funeral Home.
Burial followed in White Cemetery.

Beatrice Newsome 1928-2007
Beatrice “Below” Newsome, 79, of Harold, died Sunday, Nov. 18, 2007.
She was born Feb. 29, 1928, the daughter of the late Virgil and Fannie Moore Rogers.
She is survived her husband, Robert Newsome; two sons, David Newsome and John Michael Newsome of Harold; two daughters, Stella Sue Hamilton of Penny Road and Lona Ruth Johnson, of Toler Creek; one sister, Leona Justice of Lorain, Ohio.; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and two great greatgrandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Lucas and Son Funeral Home.
Burial followed in Newsome Branch Cemetery.

Paul Compton 1923-2007
Paul Edward Compton, 84, of Pikeville, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007.
He was born Aug. 14, 1923, the son of the late John and Virgie Mullins Compton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Deskins Compton; one daughter, Paula Compton Grimes of Pikeville; one sister, Irene McDaniel of St. Clair, Mich.; and one brother, Robert Compton of Lexington.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 20, at Lucas and Son Funeral Home.
Burial followed in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.

Willard Logan 1920-2007
Willard Logan, 87, of Pikeville, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2007.
He was born July 31, 1920, the son of the late Robert and Ila Watts Logan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Joseph Logan; one grandson, Christopher Logan; and two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Newsome Logan; two sons, Phillip Logan and Robert Logan, both of Island Creek; four daughters, Debra Sexton of Compton, Kathy Adkins of Island Creek, Lesia Trent and Jill Logan, both of Pikeville; one brother, Clayton Logan; three sisters, Agnes Logan, Ruth Bustle and Francis Powell; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 17 , at Lucas and Son Funeral Home.
Burial followed in the Community Cemetery.

Dona Kiser 1909-2007
Dona Bryant Kiser, 98, of Robinson Creek, died on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2007.
She was born Oct. 29, 1909, a daughter of the late Jarvey and Dolly Blair Bryant.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Noah Kiser; one son, Blucher Kiser; four daughters, Ethel Kiser, Lucy Kiser, Elsie Slone and Elizabeth Hall; six brothers, Ed Bryant, Hatler Bryant, Granville Bryant, Alford Bryant, Jasper Bryant and John Henry Bryant; and three sisters, Dolly Bryant, Dorie Bryant and Hattie Younce.
She is survived by two sons, Herbert Kiser of Penny Road and Jarvey Kiser of Collins Highway; seven daughters, Gracie Brown of Beaver, Lula Newsome of Little Robinson Creek; Julie Kiser of Caney Highway, Fannie Newsome and Joyce Robinson, both of Penny Road, Nadine Newsome of Robinson Creek, and Clara Jean Elswick of Long Fork Road; 45 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Caney Creek Regular Baptist Church.
Burial followed in the Sam Hall Cemetery at Robinson Creek.

James Kelly 1918-2007
James “Pete” Kelly, 89, of Pikeville, died on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007.
He was born Sept. 27, 1918, a son of the late D.L. and Ella Coleman Kelly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his wife Kathleen Lewis Kelly; one son David Kelly of Pikeville; one sister, Authelia Kelly May of Pikeville; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 11, at the First Baptist Church at Pikeville.
Burial followed in the Johnson Memorial Park at Pikeville. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the J.W. Call and Son Funeral Home in Pikeville.
Bessie Dennis 1925-2007
Bessie Maria Dennis, 82, of Raccoon, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007.
She was born Oct. 10, 1925, a daughter of the late Jim and Dixie Collins Adkins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Robert Sturgill and James Franklin Dennis;one son, Robert Dewayne Sturgill; and one daughter, Judy Vivian Sturgill.
She is survived by one son, Jolly D. Sturgill of Raccoon; two daughters, Mitzi Anita Worriz of Raccoon and Kathy Hubbard of Indianapolis, Ind.; one brother, Ireland Adkins of Raccoon; one sister, Lurlee Tetzlaff of Grand Rapids; 11 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren and greatgreat grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Thacker Funeral Home.
Burial followed in the Worriz Combs Cemetery at Raccoon.

Dale Stratton 1923-2007
Dale Stratton, 80, of Pikeville, died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007.
He was born in Pike County, the son of the late Leonard and Elizabeth Weddington Stratton.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Stratton; two sisters, Ocie Hamilton and Faye Hayes.
He is survived by one son, Kenneth D. Stratton of Pikeville; one brother, Roy Stratton of Rochester, N.Y.; one sister, Lauchie Hamilton of Pikeville; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Thacker Funeral Home.
Burial followed in the Annie E. Young Cemetery with DAV services at gravesite. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Thacker Funeral Home of Pikeville.
A.W. Stanley 1924-2007
A.W. Stanley, 83,of Hi-Hat, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007.
He was born April 29, 1924, the son of the late George and Mae Whitson Stanley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the late Opal Slone Stanley; and one son, Gary Stanley.
He is survived by four sons: Bob Stanley of Ypsilanti, Mich., Timmy Stanley of Bevinsville, Allen Stanley of Melvin, and A.W. Stanley Jr. of Wheelwright; seven daughters:, Belinda Moore of Melvin, Brenda Hall and Delonda Hall, both of Hi Hat, Kathy Stanley of Pikeville, Ronda Caudill of Prestonsburg , Sherry Paige and Christy Johnson, both of Bevinsville; 36 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Jacks Creek Baptist Church at Bevinsville.
Burial followed in Buckingham Cemetery at Bevinsville.

Farley Case, 58, of Dana, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007.
He was born Oct. 31, 1949, the late Willie and Ethel Williams Case.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer Case and Delmer Case; and one sister, Shirley Hall.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon Mary Hunter Case of Dana; one son, Farley James of Dana; two brothers, Ray Case of Dana and Racey Case of Pikeville; four sisters, Geraldine Case of Norwalk, Ohio, Shelby Irick of Betsy Layne, Rose Ann Case of Martin and Betty Jean Case of Printer; and two grandchildren.

Columbus Quillen 1942-2007
Columbus Quillen, 65, of Dwale, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007.
He was born Oct. 8, 1942, the son of the late Rueben Quillen and Cora Caudill.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester Dee Osborne and Donald Caudill.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Johnson Quillen of Dwale; four sons, Michael Collins of Chilicothe, Ohio, Burnett Little of Allen, Ernest Little and Donald Quillen, both of Dwale; five daughters, Brenda Little of Allen, Linda Blackburn of Prestonsburg, Terressa Jackson of Hager Hill, Alicia Feltner and Tina Dooley, both of Lexington; one brother, Earl Reynolds of Mt. Sterling; 20 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Sam Manuel 1921-2007
Sam Manuel, 86, of Prestonsburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007.
He was born April 5, 1921, the son of the late Mander and Jeneva Manuel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Brice Manuel, Ford Manuel and Edward Manuel; four sisters, Molly Holland, Lucy Prater, Mary Adams and Audrey Adams.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Prater Manuel of Prestonsburg; seven sons, Paul Dale Manuel, Terry Adams, Donnie Adams, Danny Adams and Paul Adams, all of Prestonsburg, Terry Lee Manuel of Lawrenceburg and Larry Adams of David; one daughter, Charlene Baldridge of Prestonsburg; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 10, at Nelson Frazier Funeral Home at Martin.
Burial followed in the Arnett Cemetery at Prestonsburg.

Bernice Gibson 1928-2007
Bernice S. Gibson, 78, of McDowell, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007.
She was born Dec. 20, 1928, the daughter of the late Ben F. and Vina Moore Stewart.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Oral Gibson; one brother, Revella Stewart; and one sister, Versie Stewart.
She is survived by one daughter, Debbie Gibson of McDowell; one sister, Vivian Cartmell of Lexington; and two grandchildren.

He was born July 14, 1949, the son of the late Burbage and Rhoda Wilburn King.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Keathley King of Harold; three sons, Alfred Lee King of Harold, Phillip DeWayne King and Ralph Anthony King; both of Winchester; one brother, William Carter King of Teaberry; five sisters, Sue Stratton, Kathryn Hall, Donna Marie McKinney, Carol Johnson, all of Harold, Irma Hicks of Lexington; and four grandchildren.

Lee Campbell, 78, of Prestonsburg, died Friday, Nov. 9, 2007.
He was born Jan. 21, 1929, a son of the late William and Susan Calhoun Campbell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl Campbell, Wes Campbell Sr. and Arthur Campbell; and two sisters, Martha Hatfield and Anna Mae Ramey.
He is survived by two brothers, Elzie Campbell and Bill Campbell, both of Prestonsburg; two sisters, Allie Hall of Prestonsburg and Mary Ramey of Wabash, Ind.

Ann Hall, 82, of Ivel, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007.
She was born Jan. 25, 1925, the daughter of the late Henry and Evelyn Gibson Slone.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the late William H. Hall; one son, Frankie Hall; one brother, Charlie Slone; and one sister, Joann Hall.
She is survived by seven sons, James Stanley of Blue River, Henry Hall, Charles Hall, Mike Hall and Art Hall, all of Indiana, Billy Hall and Rick Hall, both of Illinois; five daughters, Evelyn Spurgeon of Indiana and Lisa Burchett of Ivel; three sisters, Osie Whitaker of Ohio, Maudie Ford of Indiana and Margaret Richmond of Fort Wayne, Ind.; 36 grandchildren; 53 greatgrandchildren; and two greatgreat- grandchildren.

Juanita Mullins, 78, of Melvin, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007.
She was born March 26, 1929, the daughter of the late Hillard and Maxie Gibson Tackett.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Darvin Tackett; and one grandchild, Brandon.
She is survived by her husband, Julius Mullins; one son, Larry Mullins of East Point; three daughters, Linda Holbrook of Wheelwright, Kathi Caudill of Prestonsburg, and Jan Tackett of Jenkins; three brothers, Marvin Tackett of Virginia Beach, Va., Henry Bob Tackett of Michigan and Earl Warren Tackett of Huntington, Ind.; one sister, Mary Ann Johnson; seven grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren.

He was born Aug. 25, 1934, the son of the late Raleigh and Virgie Hale Shepherd.

He was born May 5, 1965, the son of the late Ralph and Virginia Lewis.
He is survived by two brothers, Gary Lewis and Ralph Lewis Jr., both of Banner; and one sister, Janet Salisbury of Banner.

Luna J. Hopkins Combs, 99, of Topmost, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2007.
She was born Sept. 25, 1908, the daughter of the late Miles and Ollie Slone Jones.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ishmale Hospkins; her second husband, Mont Combs; two step-sons, Arnold Combs and Normel Combs; one daughter, Yvonne Schuster; one step-daughter, Berthie Combs; one brother, Claude Jones; six sisters, Dina Nickels, Lena Allen, Lina Stumbo, Verda Sifflett, Versa Addis and Lona Jones; and a grandson, Ronnie Hopkins.
She is survived by three sons, Eddie Hopkins of Prestonsburg, Carson Hopkins, Goose Creek, S.C. and Jimmy Hopkins of Grayson; four stepsons, Hershell Combs of Topmost, Russell Combs
of Lexington, Clifford Combs of Topmost and Norman Combs, Toledo, Ohio; two brothers, Herbert Jones of Wayne, Mich. and Curt Jones of Detroit, Mich; one sister, Verna Hall of Warren, Mich.; six grandchildren; 16 step-grandchildren; 42 great grandchildren; and 13 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held, Friday, Nov. 2, at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel at Martin.
Burial followed in the Joe Hall Cemetery at Dry Creek.
Arrangements were under the direction of Hall Funeral Home of Martin.
Estill Branham 1940-2007
Estill B. Branham, 67, of Prestonsburg, died Monday, Oct. 29 2007.
He was born July 6, 1940, a son of the late Woodrow Branham and Willia Mae Bingham Branham of Prestonsburg.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sallye M. Branham; one son, Michael S. Branham of Prestonsburg; two daughters, Kimberly Renee Crisp and Susan M. Crum, both of Prestonsburg; six brothers, William D. Branham, Roscoe E. Branham, Donald E. Branham, Gary A. Branham, Woody C. Branham, all of Prestonsburg, and Paul Ray Branham of Versailles; and two grandchildren, Michael S. Branham II and Dustin L. Crum.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 1 at the Allen Christ United Methodist Church at Allen.
Burial followed in the Gethesemane Gardens at Prestonsburg.
Barbara Martin 1930-2007
Barbara Spurlock Martin, 76, of Printer, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2007.
She was born Nov. 16, 1930, the daughter of the late Floyd and Geneva Yates Spurlock.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Emmalene Parsons.
She is survived by her husband, Creed Martin; three sons, Neil Martin, Kenneth Martin and Jackie Martin, all of Printer, five daughters, Brenda Weems of Las Vegas, Nev., Patricia Martin of Hillard, Ohio, Jennifer Dillard of Williamson, W.Aa., Rita Martin of Printer, and Belinda Martin of Allen; four sisters, Mercia Bayes of Allen, Myrtle Goble of Dwale, Norma Jean Akers of Ivel and Berchie Case of Martin; 13 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held, Monday, Nov. 5, at the Hall Funeral Home Chapel at Martin.
Burial followed in the Martin Family Cemetery at Printer.
Arrangements were under the direction of Hall Funeral Home of Martin.
Jennie Allen 1914-2007
Jennie Elmeta Allen, 93, formerly of Langley, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007.
She was born Feb. 1, 1914.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Edward Allen; five sisters, Maude Klee, Sue Margaret "Madge" Hill, Hilda McDaniel, Mary Elizabeth "Bess" Beil and Carrie Francis Schietz.
She is survived by one daughter, Peggy Allen Pollard of Mt. Vernon, one son Stephen Taylor Allen of Danville; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Hall Funeral Home.
Burial followed in the Davidson Memorial Gardens, Ivel.
Arrangements were under the direction of Hall Funeral Home, at Martin.
