NEWTOWN, W.Va. — The 17th annual Hatfield-McCoy Senior Bowl will be played under the lights at James H. “Buck” Harless Stadium on Saturday night.

Former West Virginia and Kentucky seniors will clash at Mingo Central’s field beginning at 8 p.m.

Event organizer and current Mingo Central head coach Danny “Yogi” Kinder said that Cliffs Natural Resources has agreed to become the game’s sponsor. The company becomes the bowl’s third.

The West Virginia all-stars hold a 10-6 lead over the Kentucky squad. Kentucky rolled to a 30-12 win last year at Matewan.

Kentucky won four out of the first five Hatfield-McCoy Bowls from 1996-2001, but West Virginia has won nine of the last 11 games.

West Virginia’s roster includes nine former Miners as well as players from Logan, Chapmanville, Man, Westside, River View and Wayne high schools.

Kentucky’s roster is dominated by eight Belfry Pirates as well as players from Pikeville, Pike Central, Phelps, Shelby Valley, Sheldon Clark, Prestonsburg, Allen Central, Betsy Layne, Letcher Central and Jenkins High Schools.
