Sleep Center
The Sleep Center was established to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with respiratory sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea. Obstructive Sleep Apnea (complete cessation or partial cessation of breathing) was discovered relatively recently. It can lead to death, but the most frequent effect is that it disrupts the quality of life for those who have it. The problem is not new, but sleep disorders can be diagnosed and in most cases treated effectively. Many new treatment modalities are available to patients with sleep disorders, such as mechanical(CPAP/BiPAP), medicinal, and surgical.
Our Sleep Centers and Sleep Lab are staffed by registered polysomnographic technologists and Respiratory Therapists and is under the direction of a board certified sleep specialist and 2 other physicians also boarded in sleep medicine by the American Board of Sleep Medicine.
We now offer a board certified Pediatric Sleep Specialist and Pediatrician, who treats our younger patient with sleep disorders
The Sleep Center at Pikeville Medical Center, located on the 7th floor of the Elliott Bldg., is a six-bed unit, which provides and treats a wide array of sleep disorders, including Obstructive Sleep Apnea, Narcolepsy, Insomnia, and Restless Leg Syndrome.
The Sleep Lab, located in Prestonsburg (204 Collins Drive, Highlands Plaza), is a two-bed facility and offers patients in the surrounding areas the same quality care in a more convenient location, closer to home.
PMC recently opened a third Sleep Center, located at 60 Main Street in Whitesburg. The facility consists of two beds and serves residents that live in that part of the state.
The Pikeville, Prestonsburg and Whitesburg locations are all fully accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
